A VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) film is a polyethylene plastic film loaded with volatile corrosion inhibitor molecules. These molecules are gradually released to form an invisible protective layer on metal surfaces. This protection is dry and residue-free.
In addition to corrosion protection and ease of use, our VCI films offer a number of advantageous properties:
• High mechanical strength. This can vary considerably depending on the type of film and its intended application.
• Resistance to ultraviolet rays, particularly for outdoor storage applications (see VALENO® CAMPO® film).
• They can be transparent, translucent (or opaque), depending on the specific needs of the application, including the need for visual inspection, protection from light, and discretion requirements.
• The ability to protect large parts or machines.
• Its flame-retardant properties, an attractive solution for applications where fire safety is a priority.
• Its antistatic characteristics, particularly useful for packaging and protecting electronic components and other items sensitive to electrostatic discharge from corrosion.
The duration of protection depends on the application and the parts. Long-term corrosion protection (up to 15 years) is possible if our specific recommendations for use are followed. In general, the standard duration of protection is 2 years, but it can be extended to 5 years under controlled conditions.
The standard duration of protection is 2 years, but it can be extended to 5 years under controlled conditions.
It takes approximately 2 hours in 1 m³ of hermetically sealed packaging at 20°C. The closer the product is to the VCI or ICB diffuser, the shorter the time required for the protective layer to form.
VCI films are clean and dry. They leave no greasy or oily residue on the protected parts. Application is simple: just wrap or pack the parts with the film and the protection extends to all enclosed surfaces. Oils and greases require direct contact with the metal surface to be effective. Complex or internal areas may not be fully covered.
Valeno® bubble wrap offers an all-in-one solution that simultaneously protects metal parts from corrosion and physical impact, ensuring their integrity until they reach their final destination. The air bubble structure of Valeno® film effectively absorbs impacts, vibrations, and friction during transport or storage.
Valeno® film is active on both sides, which means that volatile corrosion inhibitors (VCIs) are diffused from both the inside and outside of the film. This feature gives it advantages in use, namely simplicity of packaging while offering uniform protection against corrosion.
At ACOBAL Zerust® Excor®, we have chosen not to classify our anti-corrosion VCI films by thickness, as this does not truly reflect their performance. Thanks to our manufacturing processes, we offer thinner, reinforced films designed to provide optimal mechanical strength while reducing material consumption.
Each film is tested and classified according to a mechanical strength grade (e.g., grade 320, grade 450), which guarantees its robustness, protective capacity, and durability, regardless of its thickness.
Our latest generation of thinner, reinforced films is grouped in the Slimline range, which embodies our commitment to innovative, high-performance, and responsible solutions.
